The Renovation is Complete!!!

The Rose Park North Stake Center is ready!  Members are invited to meet at the stake center this evening, Thursday, June 30, at 6:00 pm to clean up, distribute chairs and perhaps vacuum a square foot or two of fresh new carpet.

I suppose anyone who comes can take an informal lookey-loo through the building. :)

We are grateful to the Riverside Stake and Rose Park Stake who have hosted our stake for the past year.  We thank them for their hospitality and generosity.  We are also grateful to the many workers who made sure that our building renovation was ready on schedule.

Now let's unpack that truck!

See you at the Open House!

Original Cost of Building the Rose Park North Stake Center

We've had a fun little poll on this blog that asks how much you think the original Rose Park North Stake Center cost to build.  (See the polls to the right)

The answer?  (No peeking until you vote!)

$136K

The bishop of the Rose Park 7th Ward loaned me a file that had the breakdown costs of constructing the new building.  It indeed was $136,000.  Most of us who have moved into the neighborhood in the past ten years probably paid that much (or more) for our homes!

Here are some pics from the past month of renovating.  It's hard to believe that we have only 6-8 weeks left before we get to see our new stake center!

Peek Inside the Walls of the Stake Center

Here is a little peek inside the walls of the stake center...literally.  Once the walls go up you'll never be able to see this maze of pipes, boards, fittings, and wires ever again.

I'll post more pics are soon as the walls go up!

While Most of Us Are Sleeping...

Early risers are few.

And some of those rare "few" early risers are working hard inside our stake center to get it ready for us to move back in.

This picture was taken at 6am.  Most of us would rather be sleeping, but these guys were already hammering, installing, adjusting, building and working hard.

Thank you!!

Stake Center Landscaping

It's spring!  And the landscaping is going in this week all around the Rose Park North Stake Center.  As you drive by you may be able to notice tiny shrubs and sticks in the ground.  Over the next few months the landscaping will begin to take shape.  We may even see grass soon!

Here's a sampling of the plants.

Social Hall Doors

Do you remember (I know it's been a long time!) back when we used to have parties and lunches in the Social Hall?  Well, remember how there weren't any doors on the north side, so if you were carrying a large platter of ham in one hand, a tossed green salad in the other hand with a Jell-o balanced on top, you had to go in the east or west doors?

Well, problem solved!  Now we have two beautiful new north doors that will allow you to park on the north and enter on the north side.  You can bring your ham, salad, Jell-o, funeral potatoes, green beans, chocolate cakes, pulled pork, crescent rolls, root beer, ice cream and families all through these beautiful north side Social Hall doors.

Provided someone remembers to bring keys to unlock the doors.  :)

Shiny Happy Metal

All this shiny happy metal is part of the new HVAC system that will be installed in our renovated stake center.  It's so pretty!  Unfortunately, this will be the last time you'll see it.  Pretty soon it will all be behind walls, underground, and above the ceiling, humming quietly along to provide us with heat in the winter and cool in the summer.

Mystery Picture: What's in the Boxes?

Any ideas what these boxes contain?  Maybe someone with HVAC knowledge can enlighten us.

I'm pretty sure the boxes don't contain hymnbooks or nursery toys.  They look industrial.  Maybe metal pipes or fittings or electrical parts.

Although, they could also fit 10 lb slabs of dark chocolate.

Or milk chocolate.

Big News! We Have a Steeple!

Last week, coming home from an early morning run, I saw a huge steeple, laying on its side on the north side of the stake center...by the time I went back with my camera, they had already placed it on top!

Sis. Merritt was there when the crane lifted it up and took an action shot for us.

Whaa-laa!  Our new steeple!  Isn't it beautiful!

Right now it's off-center.  I'm not sure if that's where it will stay or if it will eventually migrate northward.  Either way, it's gorgeous and adds beauty and elegance to our building.

List of Changes to the Rose Park North Stake Center

You've probably heard rumors about the changes that will be happening to the Rose Park Stake Center.  And I can already tell you with unauthoritative certainty that, no, we will not be getting an Olympic-sized swimming pool in the gym, or a spa in the mother's room.  (Dang it!)

I did, however get a rough list of probable changes.  Some are already done.  Here we go:
  • Reconfiguration of bishop and clerks offices (squaring them up)
  • Smaller kitchen in gym
  • Guillotine doors is gone
  • Kitchens updates
  • Family bathrooms in that area (no shower)
  • New font location
  • Hallways down both sides
  • Chapel clerks desks are gone—handicap ramps in their place
  • Door is relocated to accommodate handicap ramp
  • New doors on north side
  • New windows
  • Fixed windows (non-openable)
  • New HVAC upgrade
  • Electrical upgrade
  • New carpet
  • New paint
  • Waterwise landscape
  • New shrubs
  • A little grass on eastside
  • Minor parking lot changes
  • New roofing
  • Seismic upgrading
